Bleaching is used to achive a silvery or sun aged look in the pine cones. This method will not only kill pests, but it will give a wonderful sun aged look to the cones.
You’ll need:
- Gloves
- Pine Cones
- Bleach
- Large Bucket
- Newspaper
Instruction:
Use gloves for this project at all times! It is recommended to do this outside, because of the bleach fumes. Do not inhale bleach fumes! Place pine cones in a bucket and pour bleach over them until covered. Leave them in for 2-8 hours or until the right bleaching color is achieved. Lay out the newspaper and let them dry for 1-2 weeks.
DON'T DRY BLEACHED CONES IN THE OVEN!
It is not a good idea to shorten the drying time in the oven. The Fumes are not healthy. Plus, it smells bad! Drying cones this way will ruin the them by making them brittle and flakey.
